“I lost my husband five years ago, and since then, raising my three children alone has been the hardest thing I’ve ever faced. I had no stable income, and there were days we went to bed hungry. I always had a dream of starting a small grocery stall, but I had no capital and no one to turn to,” recalls Jane, a widow from Kajiado County.
Through the Dr. Racheal Wairimu Foundation’s Table Banking Program, Jane joined a local women’s group and received training on financial literacy. With a small loan from the group, she started a vegetable business at the local market. Today, not only can Jane feed her children consistently, but her business is growing, and she’s begun saving to expand it.
“Now, I can look at my children and smile, knowing that they will not sleep hungry again. I thank the foundation for giving me not just money, but hope,” she says with joy.
