My beloved brothers and sisters,
How do we even begin to speak of healing, when the very places meant to care for the wounded are under attack? In this crisis, we have seen the unthinkable. Medical supplies have been stolen or blocked. Health clinics have been bombed. The very hands that were stretched out to help, nurses, doctors, aid workers—have been targeted and killed.
It seems that nothing is sacred anymore, not even life. Ceasefire agreements are signed and broken almost in the same breath. One moment there is hope, and the next, the skies rain down fear. In places like Malakal, Renk, and parts of Unity State, families flee once again, not just from bullets, but from the loss of any access to care. When illness strikes, there is often nowhere to turn.
This is the kind of heartbreak that makes the strongest among us feel helpless. We look around and see sorrow. We look ahead and see uncertainty. And yet, we lift our eyes, not in denial of our pain, but because we still believe in a God who sees, a God who hears, a God who heals.
Lord, you are the Way when there is no road left. Open doors to peace, security, and healing that no human hand can force shut. Our hope is not in the power of weapons, nor in the empty promises of men. Those who wield guns think they are powerful. They use fear like a shield and leave us feeling forgotten. But our hope is not in them. Our hope is in you and you alone, Jehovah Rapha.
Heal our wounds. Heal the minds of our children who have seen too much too soon. Heal the hearts of mothers who have lost sons. Heal the bodies of the injured lying in tents with no medicine.
We carry our grief together, and we cry out not just for ourselves, but for our land. Even in this deep night, we wait for the morning.
A Prayer for Healing in the Fire
God of mercy,
We cry to you from the ashes. Where health centers once stood, bring restoration. Where hands once healed, raise up new ones. Protect the workers still serving in the shadows. Guard every child, every elder, every wounded soul. Let peace not be a distant wish but a rising reality. Heal our land, our people, our hope.
In Jesus precious name we have prayed. Amen.
